Duncan Robinson Visits Schonfeld's NYC Headquarters
We recently welcomed Duncan Robinson, a small forward and shooting guard on the NBA’s Detroit Pistons, to our New York City headquarters to learn more about our business and share his story with our team.
During his visit, Duncan sat down for a fireside chat moderated by our COO of Global Fundamental Equity, Alex McBride, covering his path from Division III basketball to becoming one of the fastest players in NBA history to reach 1,000 career three-pointers. An NBA veteran who spent seven seasons with the Miami Heat before joining the Pistons last year, Duncan is regarded as one of the best three-point shooters in the league.
Duncan spoke candidly about what he’s learned along the way. While individual success is gratifying, he told the group, nothing compares to the feeling of team and collective achievement – something he credited to being intentional about the people he surrounds himself with. “Be super particular about who you’re choosing to give airspace to, because whether you like it or not, it’s influencing you,” he said, adding that he wouldn’t be where he is today without a small group of people on a similar journey pushing him from a competitive standpoint.
He also spoke about his daily process and routine, which he called his “superpower” – not athletic gifts, but preparation and consistency. Duncan pointed to the mental resolve required to handle adversity as the true hallmark of success, noting that the ability to endure setbacks and keep showing up applies to any pursuit, on or off the court.
Beyond basketball, Duncan shared the story behind the Robinson Family Foundation, which he created to honor his late brother, and the lessons that experience has taught him about resilience and purpose.
